Obituary For Elaine E Byerley (Burrell)

Elaine was born to Martin and Dorothy Burrell on 03.03.1927 in the Hamlet of Demaine, Saskatchewan. Elaine and her family lived on the Canadian Prairie before moving to Southern California in the 1940s. In 1944 while attending El Monte High School, Elaine was asked to send letters to a neighbor’s son stationed aboard the Destroyer USS Taylor in the Pacific theater during World War Two. At the end of hostilities in 1945, Darrel D. Byerley was honorably discharged from the Navy. He and Elaine met shortly after, and they were married on 29 July 1946. During their 59 years of marriage, Elaine gave Darrel four children, Ted in 1949, Sharol 1952-2023, Darrelyn in 1954, and Mark in 1960. Her children blessed her with four grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Sarah and her son Jacob, Carin, Matt, and Mark John. Elaine was a supportive wife, a dedicated mother/grandmother, and a loving sister. Those who knew her can attest that Elaine was a lady and a friend whose compassion for others knew no bounds. Elaine passed on 01.31.2023. She was preceded in death by her seven siblings: Perry, Bruce, Virginia, Dottie, Nina, Darrell, Leora, and their mother and father. Her soul mate, Darrel, passed away on 06.04.2005. Sarah, Elaine’s oldest Granddaughter, was lost on 03.12.2010. Sharol, Elaine’s oldest daughter, passed away on 04.01.2023. Elaine was a First Lady of NACE International as Darrel served as the President from 1973-1974. The two traveled the World as ambassadors for the National Association of Corrosion Engineers. During their time with NACE, Elaine, and Darrel, developed beautiful friendships with their peers. As a daughter of Canada, Elaine will be laid to rest beside her husband on May 17, 2023 at 12:00 noon, at the Waterside Cemetery, on the Canadian Prairie they loved so much. Elaine is missed by everyone who knew her.
