Selma Vivian (Morken) de Goesbriand
March 21, 1924 - March 27, 2024
It is with sadness that the family of Selma de Goesbriand announce her passing on March 27, 2024, at the age of one hundred years.
She passed away peacefully at Sunnyside Adventist Care Center.
Selma was born on March 21, 1924, to Chris and Marine Morken, the youngest of seven children. She lived on the farm with her family, later moving to Outlook. She worked at a hardware store and later at the drugstore, which she often recalled as "her favorite job". In 1965 she opened her own ladies' dress shop in Outlook, 'Style Rite Shoppe', and operated it until 1978. Selma was always fashionable - lovely hair and nails and beautiful modern clothing.
She was also very musical and played the piano expertly, by ear, for local dances and social events. She was talented with crafts as well and her home was filled with her creations - knitting, crocheting, rug-making, and stitching. Selma loved cats and over the years had several feline house pets.
Selma married Danny de Goesbriand in 1956 and they lived in Outlook. He predeceased her in 1976. Selma moved to Saskatoon in 1980 with Ernie, her second husband, who predeceased her in 1989.
In 2022 Selma moved to Sunnyside Adventist Care Center and resided there until her passing. The staff there appreciated her love of music and her frank manner - she always told them if she did not like something! They also appreciated her sense of humor and her teasing nature. Selma had a thankful heart and a ready smile and appreciated the care she received. The family would like to thank the staff of Sunnyside for their compassionate care for Selma during her time there.
Selma lived a long, happy life filled with faith, family, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her two husbands, her six siblings (Magda, Oscar, Carsten, ToraIf, Lillie, and Gordon), and their spouses, two nieces and one nephew. She is survived by, and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Outlook, SK.
Interment at Outlook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (Saskatchewan Division) or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan.

Jan Dynna
This is Jan Dynna, one of Selma's caregivers that came to her house from Neighbourhood HomeCare. My sympathy and God's comfort to you as family. Selma and I had many laughs together when I helped with her with personal care. She always complimented me by saying that God must have brought me to this earth so I could look after her. She jokingly called me Mrs. West, the best in the west. She liked the way I curled her hair and even allowed me to cut it 🙂 We took turns praying the Norwegian prayer before we ate. She would say if someone was looking for her, just follow the cat Tippy. I have fond memories of Selma. I hope to come to funeral but we have family from Alberta at that time.
