It is with heavy hearts that the family of Darren announces his untimely passing on June 23, 2024, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at the age of 61.
Darren was born on May 1, 1963, in Beechy, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of four children. He and his family moved to Saskatoon in 1965.
As a young person, Darren was an adventurer which sometimes got him into trouble. He liked to take things apart and put them back together, perhaps the start of his mechanical engineering background. He liked to build models and create his own games from other board games. He loved his big brothers and his sister and of course his Mom and Dad.
After completion of high school Darren attended the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology and received his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology in 1998.
Darren worked at the University of Saskatchewan in the mechanical engineering department lab as a mechanical engineering technologist. He also worked on various pipelines in Saskatchewan before going North of Fort McMurray to work for PTI Camp Installations, setting up large camp installations capable of accommodating up to 2,800 workers.
Darren was a hard worker, always considerate of others. He always had a lot of friends; he enjoyed pranks and joking around and was always fun to be around. In his downtime, he was known to play a bit of golf and toss a softball with friends. He was very proud to be from Saskatchewan – he enjoyed going to the odd Blades game and cheered for the Roughriders. Even when he worked out of province he was happy and proud to call Saskatchewan home.
He was predeceased by his mother Elaine Taguchi in 2021; his step-mother Glenda Braun in 2021; his brother Kevin Braun in 2022, and his great-niece Tabitha Braun in 2013.
Left to cherish Darren’s memory are his loving father, Ernie Braun, his son, Chad McNab, his granddaughters Raya and Rowan, his siblings Ryan Braun (Audrey) and Sandra Braun (Robert Baker); his nephews; Dan Braun (Brianne), Wade Braun (Melissa), Ben Braun (Lisa-Marie) and Clayton Braun; his niece Amy Braun (Ian Griffiths); his step-father, Akihiro Taguchi; his sister-in-law, Pamela Rustoen; great-nephews and great-nieces Argyle Braun, Jared Braun, Aurelia Braun, Emily Braun and Derek Braun; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Darren’s good friends Bob Friesen and Debra Prosofsky who were so helpful during this extremely difficult time. They would also like to thank the Saskatoon Cancer Centre for the care that he received.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Beaver Creek Camp, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
