It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Frederick Profeit (Fred), 80 years of age, on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Outlook Long-Term Care.
Dad was born May 27, 1943, in Dinsmore, Saskatchewan to the late George and Mary (Grieve) Profeit. He was the oldest of two children. His younger sister, Jean, predeceased him.
Dad attended public school in Surbiton, SK, and high school in Dinsmore, SK. After high school, Dad joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1961 where he took courses in electronics. In 1965, after attaining his degree in electronics, Dad joined Sask Tel where he remained until his retirement on May 31, 2000.
Fred leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 57 years, Carol (Prentice), daughter Michelle (Tim Dament); daughter Lana (Rich), grandsons Austin and Tyson Fahlman; daughter Nicole, grandsons Tyler, Brandon, granddaughter Chelsea Hagel; great-grandchildren Hudsyn and Paisley Hagel; adopted son, Dayton Profeit, grandsons Daycyn, Cayden, Jaden Profeit; foster son Pinder Kaloti; sister-in-law Cecile (Ralph) Atkinson; brother-in-law Barrie (Kim Paysen) Prentice, nephew Jeff (Nadine) Prentice, nieces Janis Simpkins, Shanda Prentice; niece Tracy (Blair) Young; nephew Scott Sitter.
Dad was a devoted family man and an avid outdoorsman. Summers were spent camping, fishing, and boating at the lake with family. When not at the lake, Dad could be found outdoors doing yard work, tending the garden, or helping mom with the flower beds. In addition, Dad was a natural carpenter. With only some guidance from Do-It-Yourself books, Dad has, over the years, built a canoe, multiple decks, garages, sidewalks, etc.; however, his proudest project was building a home for his family in Wilkie with the help of friends and family. Dad loved to share his talents and knowledge, and his children and sons-in-law were welcome recipients of his extensive knowledge and gentle guidance during numerous renovation projects throughout the years; in fact, he even flipped a couple of houses with one of his daughters after his retirement. Music was an important aspect of Dad's life - he loved to dance and could be found "cutting a rug" at weddings or community dances. He also played tenor sax in Wilkie's stage band culminating in a CD recording of the group in 2004 entitled "Swing Time''. ln addition, Dad found time between family, work, and hobbies to commit to his community through numerous projects as a member of the Wilkie Kinsmen Club for 15 years. When relaxing, Dad enjoyed playing card games with family or playing kaiser online if no one was around. Not surprisingly, Dad became quite the Uno shark over the past year in Long Term. Dad was a kind and gentle man who touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him, but his greatest legacy is the deep love he had for his ever-expanding family including his children, foster children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Always in our hearts.
A family graveside celebration of life will take place in May at Hillcrest Cemetery, Anerley, Sask.
Donations can be made to Outlook Long Term Care Home, Telemiracle, or a charity of your choice.

So sorry to read about your husband & father Fred. I worked in North Battleford so knew him a little.

Thoughts and prayers are with you Carol and family during this difficult time. We remember a caring and loving Fred - as he cared for your large house and yard in Wilkie, taking cookies (or whatever he'd just baked) out of the oven and pouring us a cup of tea to go with it - along with a smile and kind words. The love and pride he had for his family, always there and helping when needed. The World needs more Fred's!
