With great sadness, the family of Marie Boon announce her passing on February 22nd, 2024, at the age of 84 years.
She is survived by her loving husband Willie; son Delaney (Deanna) Boon and their children Amy (Ryan Hassett), Aubree and Rylee, Eric (Terra), Rozlyn & Liam, and Keith (Ryley) Kohen and Kamryn; daughter, Janet (Cam) Eskelson and their children Tyrel (Lan), Kale (Lindsey) Maddyn and Isla, and Corbin (Natalie); son, Murray and his children, Jennifer (Clint Oleskyn), Chase and Mason, and Rachelle (Chris); daughter,
Allison (J.J. Cormier), Jonah and Morgan; and Marie’s brothers and sisters, Donny Johnson, Shirley (Bill Treleaven), Kenny Johnson, and Ann Berndt, brother-in-law Jimmy Boon, and numerous nieces & nephews.
Marie was born in Lucky Lake on April 26th, 1939, to Sven & Mabel Johnson. She attended a small school called Greenbriar. In 1953, the Greenbriar School closed and they went to the Lucky Lake High School. She graduated high school in 1957 and then attended Teacher’s College in Saskatoon.
Marie and Willie started dating in 1955 and married in Lucky Lake on July 11th, 1959. They made their home ten miles northwest of Lucky Lake in a small two bedroom house. In 1965, they built a new home beside the old farmhouse. In 1996, they built a new home in Lucky Lake and lived there until October 2023, when they moved to Luther Place in Outlook.
Marie was a community-minded person and spent time on different committees such as the Rink Auxiliary, Figure Skating, United Church Women, Kinette Club, and as a bookkeeper for the construction of the Lucky Lake Community Centre. She was part of the Centennial Homecoming Committee in 2005 and was a big part of writing the
amazing history book for the Lucky Lake area.
Marie loved to do ceramics and had her own kiln. She held classes at her house on the farm and later in Lucky Lake and made many good friends over the years. She sewed many quilts, and all of her children and grandchildren have a handmade quilt. She loved
to crochet and knit things such as baby afghans and sweaters and passed on a love for crafts to her daughters and granddaughters.
Marie was an avid historian, scrapbooking all their farm and family history. This was a dedicated passion of hers and she did an awesome job. The family love to look through her books every time they visit because they are filled with great memories.
Marie and Willie made many trips over the years to places such Las Vegas to see Elvis in 1976, as Marie was a huge fan, Minot, Nashville, Mesa, a Via train trip to B.C., San Francisco, Maritimes, and Disneyland. In the last few years, they traveled closer to home such as Moose Jaw, Medicine Hat, Regina, Edmonton and Dakota Dunes to see music shows that were at the casinos. They loved to go to the old time music singers such as Roy Orbison.
She played many board and card games over the years with family and friends. Marie had a score book that she kept, and each page tells a story of games of Wizard, Golf, Racko, Yaniv, Tile Rummy, Speed, Canasta, Hearts, & Kings in the Corners. Marie was
always willing and ready to sit down and play a hand of cards with any of us no matter what she was doing.
Marie helped on the farm in whatever way was needed, whether it be moving farm equipment, taking meals to the field at harvest time, or hauling grain in the early years. She had a garden with strawberries, raspberries, and vegetables, and these harvests
kept her busy making jellies, pickles, and freezing vegetables. Marie was a great baker, and the grandchildren had many family favourites such as scuffles and ginger snaps. She made the best pies ever, pumpkin, raisin, apple & saskatoon were favourites.
When God takes a life he also gives life and in the coming weeks our family will have two more great-grandchildren to love, and tell them all the great memories about their Great Grandma.
Marie was predeceased by sisters-in-law, Mimmie Johnson, Judy Johnson, Laurine Boon, Jean
Boon, and brothers-in-law, Wes Berndt, Harold Boon.
