Rev. Dr. Paul Gordon Nostbakken
February 11, 1929 – November 10, 2023
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Paul Nostbakken. Paul is survived by Paulette and Randy; Joel and Pat and was the very proud grandfather of Tara Tse, Nicholas Nostbakken (Stephanie), Anthony Tse (Ashley), Marcus Meissner, Liesl Nostbakken (Matt), Anna Meissner, Joel Joseph Nostbakken and the very proud great-grandfather of Freya and Felix. Paul is survived by his brother Dale (Merle), sister-in-law Andrea Nostbakken and brother-in-law Don Vinge. Paul was predeceased by his wife, Doreen, and two sons, Keith and Mark, and his brother Roger.
Paul was an ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada and served as a missionary in Cameroun and the Central African Republic. In Canada he served in the parish, worked at Camrose Lutheran College, as President of LCBI, as Director of World Missions for the ELCC and ELCIC and as the manager of Luther Tower in Saskatoon. He
received an Honourary Doctorate in 2012 from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon. He was a person of many and varied interests, languages, history, music, cultures, birds, animals, current events, sports especially the Blue Jays and puns. From
him, we learned respect for all, to treat others with grace and to do our best to live a life of integrity. We will miss his love, his smile, and his joy in seeing us. We are thankful for a life well lived!
A special thank you to all the physicians, nurses, chaplains, and staff who cared for Paul over the past few years. It is because of you that we were able to have him in our lives for a little longer.
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word. Luke 2:29 (KJV)

Look back to LCBI days - I recall playing tennis with Paul, Harold Engen and Gladys Wig - besides all the singing and visiting groups that we formed. Many happy memories!!

Dear Paulette and Joel, and your families, Norma and I, and our adult children remember with gratitude the special connection we had with Pastor Paul when we served in PNG, and subsequently when I, Ray travelled with Paul to make WM presentations among the churches here in Canada. We are sorry to hear of Paul's passing, but give thanks to our Lord for his service, so kindly given, during his leadership with the World Mission Department. All Praise and Glory to the Lord of the Church for Paul Nostbakken's life, witness and service. Sincerely in Christ, Ray and Norma Blacklock, Camrose, Alberta

Paul was a neighbour for several years. Always friendly, thoughtful, kind and humble. Learned more about him from obit than he ever talked about. We missed Paul and Doreen when they moved.
