Raymond William Blosky, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the age of 86 at the Outlook & District Health Centre.
He was born on July 27, 1937, in Loreburn, SK. He attended Glenford School, until 1952 with the passing of his father. He completed grade 9 at the age of 15. Ray shared many fond memories of his school days, including looking forward to a hot potato with butter at lunch on those cold winter days.
Ray took over the responsibility of running the family farm to help support his mother, Erna, and brother, Harold. With the help of many neighbors and friends, he was able to make farming his livelihood until he sold the farm in 1990.
In his younger days, Ray played ball, pool, and curling. He was also an avid Saturday Night Hockey in Canada fan.
Ray married Edith Phillips in 1956 and together they created a family life with 5 children.
Family gatherings were important to Ray and he always made time for sharing good food, conversation, harvest field suppers, and many birthday and holiday get-togethers.
Throughout his working life, Ray enjoyed learning new things, and with that came many opportunities. While farming he held down a job at Cooper Motors in Hawarden all while taking correspondence for mechanics. From there he worked with Kiewit-Johnson-Poole on the Gardner Dam project. He was told all he needed was a hammer to do the job. His hardworking ethics, willingness to try anything, smarts, and creativity earned him a promotion to foreman.
Ray had an entrepreneurial spirit. In 1966, along with his brother-in-law, they opened B&P Motors in Hawarden.
He went on to build his first home for the family in 1969.
Putting his mechanical skills to work full time, he started work with Kroeker’s Potato Farm which later became Barrich Farms. It was here Ray left a big impression. He would design and build potato hillers as well as a harvester conveyor belt. He was a specialist in fixing WWII army trucks used for hauling potatoes. And a lot of training in irrigation.
He even helped the owner of a small Cessna plane that had crash-landed, fix his plane. Always helping others and sharing his knowledge. Keep in mind, this was all while farming his own land.
In 1990 they moved to Kitchener, BC. Work was scarce so they moved back to Outlook and he was welcomed back to Barrich Farms. In 1996, he built his 2nd family home on the acreage just on the edge of town. Again, with the help of family & friends. Ray loved the acreage and the shorter commute to work.
He started to take holidays. He enjoyed the hot spots: Mexico and Hawaii. But also, Disneyland with his family and camping.
Ray’s work accident in 2001 put him into early retirement and a life that would forever change him. After a few years of rehabilitation, he came back to the family and a revised home life on the acreage with lawn maintenance to keep him busy. He had the cleanest spark plugs around.
The last move was to the condo in Outlook and Ray got to enjoy pool and floor shuffle with many friends at the Heritage Centre.
Ray had a full life and every day he woke up happy and ready to make a difference. His love for his family was endless.
He will be remembered as honest, willing to help or teach someone, hardworking, patient, loving, kind, and respectful man.
Ray leaves behind his loving wife; Edith. His children; Rhonda (Gerry) Lucki, Tracey (Tim Sletten) Wiberg, Loren Blosky, Cori Dimmick & Daughter in law, Carren Blosky. 8 Grandchildren & 7 Great- Grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his father, William (Bill) Blosky, mother, Erna Moir, stepfather, George Moir, brother, Harold Blosky, and sons, Randy & Stephen Blosky.
A private family memorial service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Hawarden Cemetery. Donations in Ray's memory may be directed to the Saskatchewan Brain Injury Association, Saskatoon, SK., or the Outlook and District Health Foundation, Outlook, SK.
