Thor Hendrick Kleiv was born on June 9, 1931, in Macrorie, Saskatchewan, the youngest son of Berit (Frieggstad) and Torger Kleiv. Dad passed into his eternal home on August 16, 2024, at the age of 93 years.
It was mentioned on numerous occasions how Dad had strength, gentleness and was a very faithful man. He was a strong Lutheran and his faith was so important to him in everything he did and accomplished in life.
He retired from the Saskatoon Police Service as a Superintendent. He spent 33 years serving the City of Saskatoon.
He was part of the Norwegian community with organizations such as the Norwegian Culture Society and Sons of Norway. Along with his wife Margaret and daughters hosted many bus trips to Hostfest in Minot, North Dakota.
Dad will be remembered as the “best Dad ever” by his daughters Janet (Dean), JoAnn (Barrie) and Elaine (Dale). He was so very proud of his amazing grandchildren Jon (Kim), Daniel, Tim (Dana), Kurt (Jasmine), Louise (Darby), Brock (Amanda), and Tom. Dad’s great-grandchildren Branson, Gray, and Valerie brought so much joy into his life. He enjoyed time at his home in Canmore with his brother-in-law Art and his wife Elsie Risdahl.
He was predeceased by his wife and soulmate Margaret on November 8, 2023. They were married for 69 years. Not a day went by without Dad saying “I just miss her.” He is also predeceased by his brothers Ray, Knut, and Ernest and sister Bertina and their spouses.
Donations in Dad’s memory can be made to LuMinHos Hospital Ministry Saskatoon or the Children’s Cottage Society of Calgary.
We express our heartfelt thanks to the healthcare team at Royal University Hospital (Emergency and Medicine Units). Our family is also grateful for the caring team at Aspira-Hunter Village.
“Each for the other and both for God.”
